A funny thing happened at the office a few weeks ago. During the department's annual medical check-up, we were pushing a colleague to get himself examined. He refused and revealed that he doesn't want to be examined as he has a fear of needles and doctors. His revelation elicited howls from the group. A few days later, we noticed that he has been missing from his post. His brother told us that he underwent an operation to have his hemorrhoids removed. It turned out that he has been experiencing pain for awhile but did not seek help because of his fear of doctors. If only he had submitted himself to a checkup, a doctor could have recommended something to ease the pain he was feeling, which turned out to be caused by inflamed hemorrhoids.
