To Walk Away

There is a depth in candlelight I love.

The dance it does as I surrender
my heart onto paper.
The way it illuminates my room
as I remember the scent of wild flowers.

The memories in a candle
hold so much joy, shame, and ease.
I feel at home as I strike a match,
and inhale the bittersweet aroma.

Shadows flicker across the wall
as I feel your presence behind me,
with your gentle hands
upon my shoulders.

I close my eyes to the dim light
and remember a flawless goodbye.

With your smile in my thoughts,
a soft kiss to my cheek,
you silently turn your back
to walk away.
