Impeachment or "Truth Commission"?

Now that it is clear that Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has no intention of resigning from her post, two options are being floated, one by the opposition and the other by the administration.

The members of the opposition in Congress has started preparing the impeachment case that they will file against GMA. GMA, on the other hand, seems to favor the “Truth Commission” earlier suggested by the Church.

Which do you prefer, impeachment or truth commission?

Personally, I prefer filing impeachment charges against GMA and let Congress, sitting as impeachment court, decide on the merits of the case and what to do with GMA if she is found guilty of the charges. Also, it is the constitutional way to remove an elected official from office.

The “Truth Commission”, meanwhile, will be created by the Office of the President through an Executive Order. It would be composed of select members of the administration, the opposition and Church leaders. Even with the presence of the opposition and the Church in the commission, I can’t help but doubt the intentions for creating the body. GMA’s influence will always manifest in something that she, in her present position of power, created.
